In spring 2026, Helsinki Adult Education Centre implemented the TyƶvisLab training pilot in cooperation with Helsinki Vocational College’s Preparatory Education for Upper Secondary Qualification (TUVA) as part of the European RESCALE project. The aim was to support adult learners with low digital and language skills in their next steps towards upper secondary education and working life.

A total of 35 adult learners with an immigrant background participated in three groups. Teaching focused on essential everyday digital skills, supported by strong language awareness, personalised guidance, and attention to students’ well being. Students also had the opportunity to earn national digital basic skills badges.

The pilot showed that strengthening digital skills among TUVA students requires close integration with language support. Feedback from participants was positive, and students reported increased confidence in both their digital skills and independent learning.

TyƶvisLab bridged formal TUVA education and non formal adult education, supporting students during transition phases towards work placements and further studies. Beyond skills development, the pilot also emphasised building learner agency, helping students gain confidence, take ownership of their learning, and recognise gradual progress.

The pilot strengthened cooperation between the Helsinki Adult Education Centre and Helsinki Vocational College and demonstrated how liberal adult education can complement TUVA studies in a flexible and low threshold way. Overall, the experience suggests that integrating digital and language learning through cross institutional cooperation can play an important role in future adult education.
